Go on a real bush experience in the wild with the Selous and Mikumi safari. The safari gives you an opportunity to go off the beaten track and experience the wilderness with walking safaris. Experience the unique and elaborate beauty of Selous game reserve and Mikumi National park. Home to the big five, numerous birds and so many other animals. You also get the opportunity to see some rare animals like the wild dogs and the Sable antelope.
You will be picked up from the airport or hotel at Dar es Salaam. Our experienced guides will drive you to the Selous Game reserve. This will be your first introduction to Southern Tanzania and its beautiful lands. The journey from Dar es Salaam to Selous is long. This means lunch will be at a beautiful spot en route to the reserve. After lunch and taking a breather, we continue with our journey.
The road trip to Selous will give you a chance to view the alluring Uluguru Mountains from Morogoro town. The culture of the dwellers is untamed, and it will be a great experience to see how they live and work. A market day gives you a unique opportunity to get souvenirs for friends and family.
The countryside is also lush with tall palm trees lining the gardens and grasslands that give the hilly areas some super views.
Our afternoon drive will start the moment we get to the Selous gate. Enjoy the untapped virgin bushes and the pristine wilderness at the reserve.
Meals will include, lunch and dinner, then overnight at lodge.
After some sumptuous breakfast, we head out for our full day game drive.
Selous game reserve covers square footage of 55,000 sq. Kms. This makes it among the largest reserves in Tanzania. This will be your chance to spot the big five and other animals. It’s also a great chance to watch the great hunters catch their prey.
Animals to watch out for include the elephant, lion, hippos, buffalos, wild dogs, crocodiles, and many others. The park gives you an opportunity for great photographs while at close encounters with nature.
A walking safari will give you a completely different and incredible experience. It gives you the opportunity to view the animals on foot. Enjoy the African bush, the many bird species that characterize the reserve, the various trees, and the numerous plants.
In the afternoon, you get an out of this world boat ride at the Rufiji river. Here, the crocodiles and Hippos reign. They also get numerous visits from other animals like elephants, waterbucks, and buffalos as they visit the river to quench their thirst.
Meals will include breakfast, lunch, and dinner then overnight at lodge.
We will drive to Mikumi after some hearty breakfast and start our morning drive immediately after arrival. It’s incredible to watch the park turn into a welcoming hallo with the first shafts of sunlight.
The park is dominated by open grasslands and the miombo woodlands on the lower hills. The savannah vegetation consists of scattered baobab, acacia, and tamarind bushes. Mikumi lies between the Uluguru and Lumango mountains.
While here, you experience beautiful sights as the lion rules over the Savannah while his cubs play with the mom under a shade. The Zebras with their stripes make for a powerful sight as they eat while standing guard. The crocodile waits patiently under the water for his first meal of the day.
A walking safari will give you an awesome opportunity to see other animals including the buffalo, elephant, wildebeest, hippos, baboons, giraffe, eland, waterbuck, python, monitor lizard, and the warthog. The Sable Antelope, the wild dog, the Greater kudu, and leopards are a rare sighting you must be on the lookout for. Bird watchers can also get to enjoy identifying the more than 400 bird species.
We will get to the lodge in the evening for some sumptuous dinner after an eventful day.
We will go for a walking safari or morning game drive after breakfast around Mikumi National Park. This will be a great opportunity to watch the animals as they start their day. The hippos swimming in the muddy waters, numerous birds perched on the trees, and the giraffes as they forage on the top leaves of the scattered bushes.
At noon, we will have our lunch then head back to Dar es Salaam. There is also the option to fly to Zanzibar Island.
